'Tawampa' tea towel

Wonders of the Volcano acknowledges the Giabal and Jarowair peoples, the traditional custodians of the land on which we make, nurture and celebrate the arts in our region. When researching the naming of Toowoomba we learnt that the area was often referred to as "The Swamp", or as the local indigenous peoples pronounced it, "Tawampa". It was only later that "Tawampa" was translated to what we now know as Toowoomba. This tea towel design pays tribute to this earlier name.

For every purchase of a 'Tawampa' tea towel we donate $5 to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (www.indigenousliteracyfoundation.org.au). The Indigenous Literacy Foundation makes a difference to the lives of Indigenous families by not only gifting thousands of new culturally appropriate books – with a focus on early literacy and first language – but also by running programs to inspire the communities to tell and publish their own stories.
